How to Get the Best Deal for Your Business Move

Moving can be expensive, whether you are moving your house or your business. You have to pay for the boxes and other moving materials, the movers, and the deposits on your new space and new utilities. You’ll spend thousands of dollars before all is said and done.

That’s a big hit to your bottom line.

Fortunately, there are ways that you can save on the cost of the movers, at least, which will bring down your overall budget. You’ll have to get creative with the packing materials and other expenses.

Here are a few things you can do to get the best deal on your business move:

Shop Around

A mover company in Calgary may not charge as much as Airdrie movers. One company in Toronto may charge more than another. There is wide variation in what you can expect movers to charge, so the only way to ensure that you are getting the best price is to shop around and get quotes from as many movers as you can.

Be sure that you are getting quotes on the same services. Do an “apples to apples” comparison that includes all the same services and at the same time. Throwing in an extra dolly or even moving on a different day of the week can throw off the price. Make sure you are comparing the same things when you are evaluating your options.

Consolidate What You Can

Maybe you are planning to update your cubicles at some point when you are in the new space. Why not plan to do that right after you move so that you can leave the old cubicles behind and take them off the cost of moving? You may be surprised to see what you can consolidate once you start going through your inventory. You can get rid of old equipment or furniture that either needs to be replaced or that no longer serves you. The less you have to move, the less you are going to have to pay your movers.

You can also sell some of that old equipment and furniture to offset the cost of your move. Hold an auction or take the items to a surplus store.

Move during the Winter

No one wants to move during the Canadian winter. It’s cold and unpleasant, and everyone would rather be inside. With the decreased demand, most moving companies will drop their prices in an effort to get business. Otherwise, they would be out of work most of the winter, and that would hurt their bottom line.

Take advantage of these cost discounts by planning your move for the winter. You may have to endure the cold, but you’ll feel much better about that when you see how much you save.

Make your move a little easier on your bottom line by using these tips. When you’re running a business, you can use all the savings you can get. Channel that money back into growing your business instead!
